Drs Todd Atwood and Evan Richardson were recently elected (19 December 2025) as Co-Chairs of the IUCN/SSC Polar Bear Specialist Group (PBSG) for the upcoming 2026-2029 IUCN quadrennial cycle.
The PBSG is part of the IUCN Species Survival Commission’s science-based network of species-specific groups of volunteer experts. PBSG members are appointed for a 4-year term that follows the IUCN quadrennial cycle and automatically expire 90 days after the close of the IUCN World Conservation Congress.
The current PBSG membership will end on 13 January 2026 and the new membership will be reformed shortly thereafter.
